Three Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools recently received the EcoSchools Canada certification for the 2020-2021 school year. With this designation, the EcoSchools Canada Program recognizes the work of schools in promoting environmental learning and climate action. École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) was awarded a platinum level certification, École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) obtained a gold level certification while a bronze level certification was awarded to École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron).

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Julie Lamoureux as Principal at École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse) starting on August 18, 2021.

Due to the challenges posed by the pandemic and in order to promote continuity in learning as well as ensure the well-being of its students, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon will maintain its Académie virtuelle during the 2020-2021 school year. Launched in September 2020, this new virtual school operates like a regular school but functions in a virtual mode. Since its opening, the Académie virtuelle has welcomed Kindergarten to grade 8 students from several communities in the districts of Sudbury and Algoma. While the Académie virtuelle counted 441 students in the fall, no less than 331 students were registered in the spring.

In the coming weeks, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon elementary schools will be offering a warm drive through welcome to children who are starting Kindergarten in September 2021 as well as their parents/guardians. All families having registered their children in a French-language Catholic school are invited to the “Bienvenue à la maternelle” (Welcome to Kindergarten) event. It is still possible for parents of children born in 2017 to register their child in a CSC Nouvelon school.

The high quality of her science project has enabled a Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon student to qualify for the 2021 Canada-Wide Science Fair taking place virtually this week from May 17 to 21. Gaia Dhatt from École St-Denis (Sudbury) is among the thousands emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in some 100 regional science fairs throughout the country, where they present their research and their accomplishments as well as compete to represent their region in the Canada-Wide Science Fair.

Ms. Lynn MacLean, Principal of École catholique La Renaissance (Espanola), was recently awarded a School and Community Leadership Award from the Association des directions et des directions adjointes des écoles franco-ontariennes (ADFO) (Association of Principals and Vice-Principals of Franco-Ontarian Schools) during its annual conference held virtually. This prize is awarded each year to three persons who stand out for their commitment, contributions and leadership towards the community as well as their school community.

This summer, from August 9 to 20, the “Apprends-P’tit” program that will be offered virtually to future Kindergarten students who will begin their learning adventure in a Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon school in September 2021. This two-week program, offered via the Microsoft Teams platform, will allow students to familiarize themselves with the school environment. Through play-centred activities, children will be able to have fun in French and to meet new Kindergarten friends.
