It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Mr. André Bidal, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon) School Board Trustee for District 5 (Greater Sudbury wards 7–12), on March 28, 2022. In recognition of his important contributions to French-language Catholic education, the flags at the CSC Nouvelon head office and all of its schools will be at half mast during the following days. Details of funeral arrangements are not known at this time.

On March 17, the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (Franco-Ontarian Association of Catholic School Boards) (AFOCSC) honoured Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon) school board trustee for District 5 (Greater Sudbury wards 7–12) André Bidal with the Catholic Education Award of Excellence (Prix d’excellence en éducation catholique). This award recognizes Mr. Bidal’s important contributions to French-language Catholic education in Northern Ontario.

March 4, 2022

This year, parents of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to follow a free French as a second language program. This 10-week course starting March 23 will be offered online by Collège Boréal. This program will support Anglophone parents to learn and communicate in French to better support their child’s learning. Parents of children who will begin kindergarten in a CSC Nouvelon school in September 2022 are also welcomed to join this program. Spaces are however limited.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon), Rainbow District School Board (RDSB), Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCSDB) and Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) have approved the School Year Calendar for 2022-2023.

Until the end of March, a dozen grade 9 to 12 students studying visual arts at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River) will benefit from the artistic expertise of Ms. Kariane Lachance. Through this virtual learning project, made possible through a grant from the Ontario Arts Council, students will have access to a dynamic artist who will share her knowledge and love for the arts.

January 6, 2022

Parents wishing to register their child in a French-language Kindergarten program are invited to discover Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s elementary schools during their Kindergarten Registrations in January. Due to the health and safety measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, CSC Nouvelon schools will offer a warm and personal welcome to families during the full-month of January. Although parents will be able to schedule an appointment with the school of their choice, access to interior of the school will not be permitted. This event will be of interest to parents of children born in 2018 who will be attending school in September 2022. Also invited are parents of children born in 2017 who are presently homeschooling their children.

Due to the health and safety measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, some French language Catholic secondary schools of the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon will transport this year’s open house event into the living rooms of grade 8 students. As part of these events scheduled to take place in January 2022, students will be offered a virtual tour of the school as well as a presentation that will allow them to get to know the teachers, meet high school students recognized for their leadership and become familiar with the various programs and activities offered by their future secondary school.
