This summer, from August 9 to 20, the “Apprends-P’tit” program that will be offered virtually to future Kindergarten students who will begin their learning adventure in a Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon school in September 2021. This two-week program, offered via the Microsoft Teams platform, will allow students to familiarize themselves with the school environment. Through play-centred activities, children will be able to have fun in French and to meet new Kindergarten friends.

This year, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon awards its Vision Scholarships to outstanding graduating class students who have fulfilled the requirements of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Valued at $500, the scholarship is awarded annually to two students from each CSC Nouvelon secondary school and one from Carrefour Options+. Laureates, selected by the principal of their school, must reflect the CSC Nouvelon vision: “Thriving French-language Catholic students, proud and ready to take their place in society.” The scholarships were awarded to the following students in June 2021 during the board’s secondary schools’ virtual graduation ceremonies.

June 25, 2021

Simon Giroux, a grade 11 student from Collège Notre-Dame(Sudbury), stood out during the finals of the 7th edition of the LOL-Mort de rire Desjardins competition, presented from June 21 to 23. The quality of his seven-minute monologue enabled Simon to win the Revelation of the Year Award from the Fondation franco-ontarienne presented to the student who integrated the most innovation and creativity into his humorous text. 

June 24, 2021

From June 16 to 25, some 140 students and five teachers from the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon took part in a cultural education project led by artist in residence Éric Lapalme. For several years now, Éric Lapalme, an artist, musician, actor, composer and performer well known in the Greater Sudbury region, has been sharing his knowledge as well as his artistic and cultural passion with CSC Nouvelon students.

Some 400 students from the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s ten secondary schools will be celebrated on June 16, 17, 22, 24, 28 and 29, 2021. In order to protect the health and wellbeing of students and staff, the secondary schools will honour the students completing grade 12 through a virtual graduating ceremony. Secondary schools will enhance this recognition event with the presentation of certificates of merit, graduation gowns and mortars, and other elements of appreciation to students in drive-through format.

Recognized for the quality of its music program, École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) was recently informed that it would receive a grant valued at $6,000 from MusiCounts Band Aid Program. It is one of 95 schools across the country to benefit from this support from Canada’s music education charity.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s Académie virtuelle will host a virtual open house on Wednesday, June 16, at 6.30 p.m. As part of this activity, parents will be offered a presentation to learn more about how the school operates, get to know some of the school staff, discover some of its success stories and hear testimonials from parents and students of the Académie virtuelle.
