ÉSC Champlain gives back to the community following its 14th annual Homeless for a Night event

On October 9, some 75 students as well as staff members from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) took part in the 14th Homeless for a Night event. With only cardboard boxes and tarps for shelters,
students were able to experience the reality of being homeless. They also collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations. Community members were able to stop by for a visit and donate to this great cause.

During the night of Wednesday, October 9, some 75 students from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) along with staff members will take part in the 14th annual Homeless for a Night initiative. This
awareness activity will begin at 4 p.m. on the ÉSC Champlain school property located at 61 Brookside Road in Chelmsford and conclude on Thursday, October 10, at 8 a.m.

CSC Nouvelon students’ graduation rate among the best in Ontario

The Government of Ontario recently released the 2023 student graduation rate for the province’s Catholic and public school boards. The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon takes great pride in the fact that 96.3% of its students complete the requirements for their high school diploma in five years, with 91.5% receiving their diploma in four years. The CSC Nouvelon students’ graduation rate is among the best of all school boards in Ontario (Anglophone and Francophone) and is the highest among all school boards operating in Northern Ontario. The CSC Nouvelon has the 2nd highest five-year graduation rate in Ontario and is 8th overall for its four-year graduation rate.

Celebration of the countdown towards the grand opening of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse

The forthcoming opening of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse was officially celebrated earlier today. Dignitaries, students, staff and members of the community gathered to mark the progress of construction and the planned opening of the new school in September 2025. The launch event, held on Franco-Ontarian Day, puts forward the new school’s strategic role in promoting French-language Catholic education and Francophone cultures in the communities of Val Thérèse and Hanmer.

Construction countdown of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse

Members of the media are invited to the construction countdown ceremony of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse. The construction of the new facility will unite students currently enrolled at École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse), École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), and École St-Joseph (Hanmer). The new school, which will include a French-language daycare facility, is located at 4385 Municipal Road 80, at Shirley Avenue, in Val Thérèse. The selected date, which coincides with Franco-Ontarian Day, will put forward the new school’s strategic role in promoting French-language Catholic education and Francophone cultures in the communities of Val Thérèse and Hanmer.

Supporting Anglophone and Allophone parents in their efforts to help their child learn in French

This year, parents and guardians of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to follow two free French as a second language programs. The Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 programs are both 15-week courses. and will be offered online by Collège Boréal starting October 8, 2024. These programs will support Anglophone and Allophone parents as they learn and communicate in French to better support their child’s learning. The cost of the courses is covered by the CSC Nouvelon Parent Involvement Committee. However, spaces in both programs are limited.
