Three Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools recently received the EcoSchools Canada certification for the 2020-2021 school year. With this designation, the EcoSchools Canada Program recognizes the work of schools in promoting environmental learning and climate action. École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) was awarded a platinum level certification, École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) obtained a gold level certification while a bronze level certification was awarded to École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron).
In these schools, student-run environment clubs carried out projects that had an ecological impact in various areas such as greening, reducing energy consumption, reducing waste and preserving the environment. Through their ongoing efforts, these schools promoted environmental leadership, reduced their ecological footprint and helped initiate an eco-responsible school community within their establishment.
“We take pride in our schools’ ability to rise to the challenge during a school year marked by the pandemic and succeeding in fostering environmental learning for students and in mobilizing their school community in taking concrete action. By strengthening our students’ environmental leadership, our schools are providing them with the tools to become eco-responsible citizens equipped to reduce their ecological footprint,” stated Mr. Paul Henry, CSC Nouvelon Director of Education.
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,400 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
