Outstanding Collège Notre-Dame scientists stand out at Sudbury Regional Science Fair

Thanks to the excellence of their science projects, several students from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) stood out during the Sudbury Regional Science Fair held on online in April. Collège Notre-Dame student Maxine Maillet and Jasmine Lauzon distinguished themselves at the Science Fair through the quality of their science projects. These Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon student are among the Greater Sudbury students to qualify for the 2022 Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held virtually on May 16-20.

École Ste-Marie teacher honoured for his passion and innovation in education

Mr. Stéfane Noël de Tilly, teacher at École Ste-Marie (Azilda), was rewarded for his excellence, his passion and his innovation in education by winning the IDÉLLO 2021 Award in the French-language school teacher in Ontario category during of the Groupe Média TFO 2021 IDÉLLO Awards Gala held on March 31. This Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon teacher is one of four exceptional people recognized for their innovation in the Francophone and Francophile school environment in Canada. The recipients of the IDÉLLO Awards are rewarded for the relevance and originality of their teaching practices, their promotion of the French language and Francophone culture, the integration of digital and new technologies in education as well as the attention given to equity and inclusion.

Ms. Brigitte Prévost was presented the Sudbury Regional Science Fair’s Ambassador for Science Award during its awards ceremony on April 10, 2022. A teacher at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), Ms. Prévost was recognized for her continued commitment to teaching science. The Ambassador for Science Award recognizes the significant contributions of an exceptional teacher who is dedicated to teaching science and whose passion for this subject has enabled students to surpass themselves in the preparation of their projects for the Science Fair.

École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault student pursues her dream of becoming a singer

Ella Dubreuil, a grade 10 student at École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault in Sault Ste. Marie, stands out for her singing talent. Having participated in the first round of the Lion's SuperSTARS Vocal Competition, presented by Café Héritage, she was selected to advance to the finals in Sudbury on May 14. As one of the finalists, Ella will be able to take part in a professional singing workshop and will be eligible for one of the grand prizes in the senior category (13-19 years of age).

Promoting healing and wellness through the arts and cultures of First Nations, Métis and Inuit

As part of its efforts to encourage and ensure equity, respect and inclusion in its school communities, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon, in collaboration with its Parents’ Participation Committee, will produce a series of four videos. This project seeks to raise awareness within the board’s school communities and provide a better appreciation of the different cultures that surround them, and more particularly the cultures of the First Nations, Métis and Inuit. In addition, these videos will offer a brief overview of the impact of colonization on some forms of artistic expression. This initiative, made possible through funding from the Ontario Ministry of Education, benefits from the support of Parents, partenaires en éducation.

Passing of CSC Nouvelon Board Trustee and Past President

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you of the passing of Mr. André Bidal, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon) School Board Trustee for District 5 (Greater Sudbury wards 7–12), on March 28, 2022. In recognition of his important contributions to French-language Catholic education, the flags at the CSC Nouvelon head office and all of its schools will be at half mast during the following days. Details of funeral arrangements are not known at this time.
