On Wednesday, June 24, students and staff from several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will celebrate Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. Both École catholique Georges Vanier (Elliot Lake) and École St-Étienne (Dowling) will play an important role in the day’s identity-building activities to promote their Catholic and Francophone heritage and culture.

Some 1,000 Greater Sudbury students will gather at the École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur field (261 Notre-Dame Avenue, Sudbury) on Friday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., to take part in a traditional pow-wow and various related events in celebration of National Aboriginal Day. This activity, offered by the N’Swamakok Native Friendship Centre, will unite elementary school students from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario, Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario, Sudbury Catholic District School Board and Rainbow District School Board. It will enable participants to better appreciate and discover the culture of Canada’s Aboriginal people. Members of the media are invited to attend.

The sixth Franco-Espo, Espanola’s Francophone Catholic Pride rally is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 17. This year, some 700 Francophone Catholic students from across Espanola and the North Shore area will gather for the pride event and celebrate the vitality of their faith, language and culture. Students and staff from École Saint-Joseph (Blind River), École Georges Vanier (Elliot Lake), École Sainte-Anne (Spanish), École St-Paul (Lively) will join their colleagues from École Saint-Joseph (Espanola) and ÉSC Franco-Ouest (Espanola), making the Franco-Espo one of the most important Francophone activities in the North Shore area.

Two days of track and field competition for CSCNO elementary school students

 WHAT?                Track and Field competition for CSCNO students

Media representatives are cordially invited to view the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) elementary school track and field competitions. Some 700 students will gather on the Laurentian University athletic track to take part in this annual friendly competition. Grade 7 and 8 students will compete on Tuesday, June 16, whereas the Thursday, June 18, competition will attract grade 4, 5 and 6 students. Some 15 schools from the Greater Sudbury area will take part in each day of competition.

On Thursday, June 11, at 11 a.m., some 1,500 grade 5, 6, 7 and 8 francophone students from some 30 Greater Sudbury, Sudbury East and North Shore schools will gather at Bell Park’s Grace Hartman Amphitheatre for the St-Jean Baptiste performance featuringthe francophone rock band MHS. The concert is presented through the collaborative effort of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) and the Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO).

During the recent May 26, 2015 meeting of its board of trustees, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) approved the appointment of Mr. Robert Bégin to the permanent position of Director of Computer Services.
