On Thursday, April 23, and Friday, April 24, 115 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) high school students will unleash their passion for music at the 7th edition of the Mélomanie cultural artistic event. Catholic secondary school students with a strong interest in the arts will come together during this outstanding educational and identity-building experience and take part in a unique French language activity designed to complement the top-quality musical and arts programs offered in CSCNO high schools. The majority of activities will take place on the Laurentian University campus, with one workshop planned at Collège Boréal. Members of the media are most welcome to attend all activities.

More than 400 students from 40 French-language Catholic and public high schools will gather in Sudbury from Wednesday, April 29, to Saturday, May 2, to take part in the in the AFOLIE Provincial Improv Tournament. Held mainly on the Collège Boréal campus, the AFOLIE tournament is a dynamic event that brings young improv artists from the four corners of Ontario together for a single reason: celebrating Franco-Ontarian culture through improvisation.

On Friday, April 17, some 200 students and staff members from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) will take part in the inspirational We Day event by taking a vow of silence. Students and staff from Sudbury’s École St-Denis and École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest (Espanola) held their vow of silence on Thursday, April 16. This initiative has been put together by We Day and We Act.

This week and in the coming days, students from several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will interact with Aboriginal leaders in a series of learning activities that will enable both students and teaching staff to benefit by discovering the bounty of Métis and First Nations Cultures. Members of the media are invited to attend.

The Government of Ontario recently released the 2014 student graduation rates for the province’s Catholic and Public school boards. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) takes great pride in announcing that its students exceeded the provincial graduation rate average.

Some 150 young chess masters will meet in Wawa on Wednesday, April 22, 2014 for the second Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament. The competition, hosted by Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph, will attract francophone students from the following Northwestern Ontario French Catholic and Public schools: École Saint-Joseph and École l’Escalade (Wawa), École Saint Nom de Jésus (Hornepayne), École St-Joseph and É.s. l’Orée des bois (Dubreuilville), École Sacré-Cœur and É.s.c. Trillium (Chapleau), École Notre-Dame-du-Sault and École Écho-des-Rapides (Sault Ste. Marie), and École Franco-Manitou (Manitowadge).

During its recent board of trustees meeting held on March 31, 2015 the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) approved the placement of school principals and vice-principals for the 2015-2016 school year.
