Mr. André Bidal, Chair of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), and Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education of the CSCNO, congratulate the 2014-2015 graduates who were recently awarded the prestigious Governor General’s Academic Medal. For more than 140 years, the Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized the outstanding scholastic achievements of students in Canada. They are awarded to the student graduating with the highest average from their secondary school.

Alexander Burnham, a grade 4 student at Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph, was recently able to put his mathematics skills to good use at the Mathnasium’s TriMathlon competition. Highly motivated by mathematics, Alexander came to Sudbury on October 17 and 18 to compete in this competition. With the support of his family and school staff, Alexander finished 1st in the grade 4 category.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will host an evening featuring Aboriginal culture at École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (261 Notre-Dame Ave., Sudbury) on Thursday, October 15, starting at 7 p.m. The purpose of this CSCNO event is to inform parents about the activities and services offered to First Nation, Métis and Inuit students.

During the night of Wednesday, October 7, 105 students and four staff members from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) as well as 4 elementary school students will take part in the Homeless for a Night activity. This awareness activity, with the theme “A Helping Hand for a Better Tomorrow,” will begin at 4 p.m. at the Métro supermarket parking lot located on Errington Street in Chelmsford. The event will conclude on Thursday, October 8, at 9 a.m.

During its September 29, 2015 meeting, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) announced that it will proceed with the selection of a schoolboardtrustee to represent constituents living in Greater Sudbury’s Zone 4 (Wards 1 to 4: Azilda, Chelmsford, Dowling and Lively).

On September 24, 57 grade 7 and 8 students (44 boys and 13 girls) from ten Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools took part in the 7th annual CSCNO golf tournament. This competition enabled the talented St-Denis (Sudbury), St-Joseph (Sudbury), Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), St-Augustin (Garson), Jean-Paul II (Val Caron), Notre-Dame (Hamner), Ste-Marie (Azilda), Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford), St-Paul (Lively) and Saint-Joseph (Espanola) golfers to benefit from a friendly competitive encounter with fellow students from neighbouring French Catholic schools.

On Friday, September 25, hundreds of elementary and secodnary students from various Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) will celebrate of the Franco-Ontario by taking part in activities held in their school or their community.
