The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is proud to announce the election of two new student trustees for the 2015-2016 school year.

On Saturday, May 23, more than 150 grades 3 and 4 students from 13 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario and Sudbury Catholic District School Board elementary schools had the opportunity to compete in the first Comètes de l’école Jean-Paul II indoor co-ed indoor soccer tournament. The competition, which took place at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), was held in a spirit of friendly sportsmanship and fair play.

On Friday, May 22, at 10 a.m., students and staff from Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur will celebrate the completion of the construction of a 13-foot birch-bark canoe with an official launch ceremony. This activity will take place at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area (2309 South Bay Road, Sudbury). Members of the media are invited to attend.

In the coming weeks, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) French Catholic elementary schools will be offering a warm welcome to children who are starting kindergarten in September 2015 as well as their parents/guardians. All families having registered their children in a French language Catholic school are invited to the “Bienvenue au programme de jardin d’enfants” (Welcome to Kindergarten) event. Parents who have not registered their children in a CSCNO school still have time to register for this event by calling their neighbourhood school.

The music group Mandala from Val Caron’s École secondaire catholique l’Horizon displayed the depth of its musical talent during the 2015 la Brunante music contest. During this training activity offered to the top up-and-coming Franco-Ontarian music stars, which concluded with the presentation during public concert on May 13, Mandala was awarded the 2015 Prize of the Jury. As the winner of the outstanding band of the evening Mandala has earned the coveted opportunity to present on stage during the 2016 edition of La Nuit sur l'étang.

From March 23 to April 2, a student from Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph lived a unique experience at Queen’s Park as Page in the province’s Legislature. Démily Thibodeau-Bello, a grade 7 student, was selected among hundreds of applicants seeking to participate in the Legislative Page Program.

More than 600 francophone students from 97 French language Catholic and public secondary schools will gather in Penetanguishene from May 15 to 18 to take part in the 22nd edition of the Jeux franco-ontariens (Franco-Ontarian Games). Held at École secondaire Le Caront under the theme “L’histoire dans nos voiles,” this annual provincial gathering attracts a great deal of attention among students from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO).
