The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is pleased to announce the renewal of Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau’s mandate as Director of Education and Secretary-Treasurer, until 2021.

Thanks to the high quality of their science projects, several Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) students stood out during the Sudbury Regional Science Fair held on the Laurentian University campus on March 28 and 29. Patrick Trottier, a grade 10 student at Collège Notre-Dame, distinguished himself at the Science Fair through the quality of his project entitled “Naviguer sans s’aveugler” (Sailing Without Being Blinded). He is among the six Greater Sudbury students to qualify for the 2015 Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held in Fredericton (New Brunswick) on May 11-16. These students are among some 25,000 emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in more than 100 regional science fairs throughout the country.

Science teacher Pierre Taillon from Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame (CND) was presented the Sudbury Regional Science Fair’s Ambassador for Science Award during its March 29, 2015 awards ceremony. The award, presented for the very first time, spotlights notable contributions to the teaching of science made by exceptionally dedicated educators who, through their passion for this subject, support their students and excel in helping them to prepare their Science Fair projects.

Mélanie-Rose Frapper, a grade 12 student at Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, stood among the eight outstanding citizens celebrated on March 26 during the Northern Ontario Community Builders Awards of Excellence gala. Mélanie-Rose was presented the Young Leader Award in recognition of her important contributions and volunteerism at the community level.

On March 26 and 27, Holocaust survivor Judy Abrams, will give three presentations at Collège Notre-Dame (100 Lévis St., Sudbury) while in Greater Sudbury. Her first presentation which is open to the public will take place on Thursday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. The following day at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Mrs. Abrams will offer presentations to students from Collège-Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury), École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron) and École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford). Members of the media are cordially invited to attend.

High school musicians from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) had the experience of a lifetime at the 12th annual “Quand ça nous chante” music festival. Some 410 up-and-coming musicians from 36 Ontario Catholic and public francophone secondary schools took part in this gathering which took place from March 5 to 8 in Ottawa.

On Monday, March 23, some 80 grade 3 to 8 students from French Catholic elementary schools Sacré-Cœur (Chapleau), École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville), École Saint-Joseph (Wawa), École Trillium (Chapleau) and École Saint Nom de Jésus (Hornepayne) will converge in the Dubreuilville Arena to take part in a hockey and leadership camp. Among the coaches on the ice to share their expertise with students will be Chris Simon, a former player in the National Hockey League and Europe’s Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), and Dylan Buckell, a graduate from Wawa’s École secondaire Saint-Joseph.
