On Saturday, May 23, more than 150 grades 3 and 4 students from 13 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario and Sudbury Catholic District School Board elementary schools had the opportunity to compete in the first Comètes de l’école Jean-Paul II indoor co-ed indoor soccer tournament. The competition, which took place at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), was held in a spirit of friendly sportsmanship and fair play.

Following a series of thrilling matches in the round robin part of the tournament, the best teams faced off in the elimination round. The Lions from École Ste-Marie (Azilda) edged École Hélène-Gravel Lynx (Sudbury) by a score of 1-0 in the Division A final. The Jaguars from École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury) defeated the Nordiques from École St-Dominique (Sudbury) by a score of 3-0 in the Division B final.

Players in the friendly tournament also raised funds in the order of $1,200 in support of the Solidarité Burundi project which seeks to build a school in Africa.
