Simon Giroux, a grade 11 student from Collège Notre-Dame(Sudbury), stood out during the finals of the 7th edition of the LOL-Mort de rire Desjardins competition, presented from June 21 to 23. The quality of his seven-minute monologue enabled Simon to win the Revelation of the Year Award from the Fondation franco-ontarienne presented to the student who integrated the most innovation and creativity into his humorous text.

This Collège Notre-Dame student invested a great deal of energy and effort in his presentation to offer an exceptional humorous performance. By adapting his text to the global situation, Simon Giroux succeeded in creating a hilarious stage character. No less than 22 finalists from grades 7 to 12 from French-language Catholic and public schools from across Ontario competed in the provincial final.

This year’s Franco-Ontarian youth comedy contest kicked off on December 3, 2020, when 851 grade 7 to 12 students from all regions of Ontario were offered training by professional comedians. Once the training was completed, 22 students were selected to continue their journey in order to reach the finals of the LOL-Mort de rire Desjardins competition. Due to the pandemic, the finals were held virtually on TFO's YouTube channel where the 22 finalists had the chance to present humorous numbers.

"The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon strongly believes in the importance of providing students with the opportunity to live significant Francophone cultural experiences," said Mr. Paul Henry, director of education at CSC Nouvelon. "We congratulate Simon for this great success on this provincial stage and for standing out for his sense of humour, his confidence on stage and his mastery of the French language."

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence.
