Some 450 grade 4 to 8 students from six Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools (Écoles St-Denis, Jean-Paul II, St-Augustin, Ste-Marie, Alliance St-Joseph and St-Joseph) will gather at Sudbury’s École St-Denis (1200 Ramsey View Court) on Thursday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, to participate in the second We Day rally. This activity will be led by grade 7 and 8 students from École St-Denis, who will be supported by a group of students from Collège Notre-Dame. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Following their participation in the national We Day event in Ottawa in April, École St-Denis students mobilized themselves to organize a local version of the activity for CSCNO students. Since September, the students have been inspired to lead a fundraising drive in support of a village in India, and wanted to share their learning experiences by hosting a day featuring inspiring speakers, messages and activities. The rally will also feature Francophone and Catholic role models from the CSCNO.

The leadership-building activity seeks to create a setting that will motivate students to become leaders guided by the motto: “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” Organizers will motivate students to bring change in their world in their own way. By presenting spiritual and Francophone models, positive messages and lively music, We Day organizers hope to empower the youth to become responsible and involved citizens of the world.

We Day is a movement of our time that empowers a generation of young citizens to change the world and become socially responsible. This movement provides tools and skills to a generation of youngsters, helping to turn the inspiration of one day into sustained activation.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
