CSCNO schools to offer warm welcome to incoming kindergarten students

In the coming weeks, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) French Catholic elementary schools will be offering a warm welcome to children who are starting kindergarten in September 2016 as well as their parents/guardians. All families having registered their children in a French language Catholic school are invited to the “Bienvenue au programme de jardin d’enfants” (Welcome to Kindergarten) event. Parents who have not registered their children in a CSCNO school still have time to register for this event by calling their neighbourhood school.

The Circle of Life tour stops at CSCNO schools

Creator and cultural driving force Isabelle Garceau will lead workshops in various Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools between Monday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 18, as part of her Circle of Life tour. During the workshops, Ms. Garceau will share her knowledge of Aboriginal art, creativity and movement.Atikamekw and Innu Métis herself and to a great extent uprootted from her culture, Isabelle Garceau successfully recreated the fabric of her origins through her research and her experiences acquired through her participation in aboriginal gatherings and rituals. By participating in this learning activity, the students and staff will have an opportunity to discover the rich culture of the Métis and First Nations peoples.
ÉSC Trillium students attend the episcopal ordination of Father Robert Bourgon

On April 25, a group of students from the École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) Pastoral Committee attended the episcopal ordination of Father Robert Bourgon, the newly-appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Heart. The students travelled hundreds of kilometres to the Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Cathedral, where they joined some 500 members of the Catholic community from all corners of Ontario in celebrating this grandiose event. Mr. Roger Lemoyne, CSCNO school trustee for Ward 8 (Dubreuilville et Hornepayne) also took part in the ordination.

CSCNO schools celebrate Catholic Education Week

Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will celebrate Catholic Education Week under the theme “Opening of the Door of Mercy” theme. From May 1 to 6, school boards across the province will promote the added value of a Catholic education and the overall excellence of Francophone Catholic schools.
École Alliance St-Joseph students claim top awards at Battle of the Books competition

The student teams from École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford) were dominant at the 13th annual French-language Battle of the Books competition held on April 26, 2016 at Collège Boréal. The École Alliance St-Joseph Lynx from Chelmsford excelled and finished second overall while also winning the Team Spirit Award. Whereas Alliance St-Joseph students have claimed the silver medal for the third time in successive years, the Lynx were also awarded the
Team Spirit Award in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Mélomanie: CSCNO students to take part in an enriching musical and cultural experience

On Thursday, April 28, and Friday, April 29, some 200 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) high school students will unleash their passion for music at the 8th edition of the Mélomanie cultural artistic event. Catholic secondary school students with a strong interest in the arts will come together during this outstanding educational and identity-building experience and take part in a unique French language activity designed to complement the top-quality musical and arts programs offered in CSCNO high schools. The majority of activities will take place on the Collège Boréal campus, while the art workshops will be offered at the Sudbury Art Gallery. Members of the media are most welcome to attend all activities.
