During its inaugural December 2, 2016 board meeting, Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) school trustees re-elected Mr. André Bidal as President for the 2016-2017 while Mr. Normand Courtemanche will serve as Vice-Presiden.

Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools stood out at the Regional Elementary and Secondary Cardboard Boat Race competition for elementary schools. Some 30 teams from various Northern Ontario communities took part in the challenge.

Between November 22 and December 2, students at five Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) elementary schools are participating in a cultural project aimed at bolstering their pride for their country. As part of this project, the students will strengthen their understanding of the country’s national anthem and take part in the in recording a new version of “O Canada” that will subsequently be broadcast on their school’s student radio.

Mr. Serge Plante, school guidance counsellor at École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford), was presented the 2016 Padre Denis Brisson Memorial Award at the Association des conseillers en orientation scolaire de l’Ontario (ACOSO) Conference in Toronto on November 7.  The ACOSO prize, awarded by Ontario’s francophone and bilingual postsecondary educational institutions (led by the University of Ottawa, Laurentian University and Collège Boréal), recognizes the contributions and commitment of a francophone school guidance counsellor in Ontario.

Emily Brock, a grade 10 student at Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, was awarded the Governor General’s Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers during a ceremony held in Ottawa on November 8, 2016. This national award for volunteers, presented by Canada’s Governor General, the Right Honourable David Johnson, recognizes ten exceptional young Canadians for their outstanding contributions and commitment.

Several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools will host a book fair featuring French-language books and educational products in November. The book fairs will allow students and their families to choose from a variety of French-language educational products such as books, videos, DVDs, software, and educational games. The book fairs will benefit students, since part of the profits will go towards the purchase of educational resources for the school. Admission is free and everyone is invited.
