Creator and cultural driving force Isabelle Garceau will lead workshops in various Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools between Monday, May 9, and Wednesday, May 18, as part of her Circle of Life tour. During the workshops, Ms. Garceau will share her knowledge of Aboriginal art, creativity and movement.Atikamekw and Innu Métis herself and to a great extent uprootted from her culture, Isabelle Garceau successfully recreated the fabric of her origins through her research and her experiences acquired through her participation in aboriginal gatherings and rituals. By participating in this learning activity, the students and staff will have an opportunity to discover the rich culture of the Métis and First Nations peoples.

The following workshops will be offered by Isabelle Garceau when her tour stops in schools in the Sudbury East, Greater Sudbury, Espanola and North Shore regions: First Steps in the Great Circle of Life, Awareness of the Wisdom of Aboriginal Culture, Weaving the Fabric of our Reality, My Totem Animal, and Becoming Rainbow Warriors.

Isabelle Garceau will lead tour workshops at the following CSCNO schools:

École Saint-Joseph (Blind River): Monday, May 9, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

École Sainte-Anne (Spanish): Tuesday, May 10, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1  to 3 p.m.

École St-Antoine (Noëlville): Wednesday, May 11, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1  to 3 p.m.

École St-Charles Borromée (St-Charles): Thursday, May 12, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

École St-Paul (Lively): Friday, May 13, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

École St-Dominique (Sudbury): Monday, May 16, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

École St-Thomas (Warren): Tuesday, May 17, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (Sudbury): Wednesday, May 18, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford): Wednesday, May 18, from 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This Circle of Life tour workshops are offered in the above Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools as part of its Aboriginal culture awareness program.

The CSCNO, whose Aboriginal Education program is among the most proactive in Ontario, is pleased to provide this opportunity to support Native students (First Nation, Métis and Inuit) and assist them in reaching their full potential. The Board’s program includes initiatives that support awareness, learning and academic success, and seeks to instill pride and a sense of belonging to Aboriginal cultures.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
