On September 29, 2016, Markus Valtonen, a grade 11 student at Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, was honoured with the Huntington University Leadership Award. This distinction, presented during a gala luncheon, recognizes this student’s noteworthy community contributions and leadership.

During the night of Thursday, October 6, 105 students and staff members from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) as well as two elementary school students will take part in the Homeless for a Night activity. This awareness activity, with the theme “Alone, I go faster; together, we go further,” will begin at 4 p.m. at the Métro supermarket parking lot located on Errington Street in Chelmsford. The event will conclude on Thursday, October 7, at 9 a.m.

Sudbury  – The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released earlier this week the results of Ontario’s grade 3 and 6 students from the 2015-2016 provincial testing. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) notes that its elementary students (grades 3 and 6) have shown a steady improvement in reading, writing and mathematics over the last five years.

During its Festival Franco Requins and Family Fun Day activities this September 23 and 24, École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) will host a variety of fun-filled activities for its students and for students and staff from its feeder schools and the community at large. The two days of fun-filled celebration will also promote the vitality of the Franco-Ontarian community. The Festival Franco Requins and Family Fun Day will also mark Franco-Ontarian Day, which will be celebrated on September 25. All activities will take place at ÉSC Champlain, which is located at 61 Brookside Drive in Chelmsford.

On Friday, September 23, hundreds of elementary and secondary students from various Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will celebrate Franco-Ontarian day by taking part in activities in their school or in the community. Wearing green and white clothing, students, parents and staff from a number of schools will take part in this celebration of Franco-Ontarian vitality. While some students will celebrate this day in events held in their school, others will march through the neighbouring streets and proudly wave Franco-Ontarian flags and school banners.
