The Ministry of Education is encouraging area school boards in Elliot Lake to work together to address student accommodation needs. As a result, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) and the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) are collaborating to determine how to best deliver quality Catholic education in English and in French to their students.

Book Fairs to take place in CSCNO schools

Several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will host a book fair featuring French-language books and educational products in October and November. The book fairs will allow students and their families to choose from a variety of French-language educational products such as books, videos, DVDs, software, and educational games. The book fairs will benefit students, since part of the profits will go towards the purchase of educational resources for the school. Admission is free and everyone is invited.

On Wednesday, November 12, a camera crew from the Ontario Ministry of Education will be at Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame to record a learning activity in Mrs. Manon Gauthier’s French class. The Ministry is interested in a scheduled activity that will enable students to benefit from the SpeakUp in a Box learning tool. During the visit to Collège Notre-Dame, the Ministry of Education will become familiar with the successful teaching practice with the intention of sharing it with other secondary schools and school boards across the province.

Holocaust survivor to deliver an anti-bullying message at É.s.c. l’Horizon

Holocaust survivor Mrs. Eva Olsson will deliver an anti-bullying message as part of Remembrance Day activities, and speak out against hate and intolerance on Tuesday, November 11, at 7 p.m., in the gymnasium of École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (1650 Valleyview Road, Val Caron). While there will be no charge for attendance, participants are invited to bring a can of food, which will be donated to a local food bank.

Media representatives are cordially invited to attend a Remembrance Day ceremony organized by students and staff at École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) on Thursday, November 6, at 10 a.m. To commemorate Remembrance Day, the school will host a ceremony that will also be attended by representatives of the Canadian Legion Branch 553 from Chelmsford.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is pleased to congratulate the candidates in the recent school board election who were successful in their quest to serve as school trustees with the CSCNO. The Conseil scolaire announces that after all votes were cast on Monday, October 27, the following trustees, representing the eight zones of the CSCNO, have been elected to its Board for a four-year term starting on December 1, 2014.
