Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame junior girls basket-ball team were the top team at the Franco-Ontarian Girls Basketball Tournament held in Timmins from October 23 to 25. The Alouettes were dominant in the preliminary round and defeated Nouvelle-Alliance (48-8), La Citadelle (50-13), Macdonald-Cartier (47-7) et l'Essor (54-29). In their semi-final matchup, the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes defeated Sainte-Famille by the score of 43-11. In the championship game, the Alouettes once again displayed fine form and defeated the junior squad from Timmins’s É.s.c. Thériault by a score of 45-18 and claimed the Division A Banner.

The École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur Griffons (Sudbury), the École secondaire catholique l'Horizon Aigles (Val Caron) and the École secondaire catholique Champlain Requins (Chelmsford) also played with passion in the tournament. The junior girls from Horizon advanced to the Junior B finals while the Champlain squad was a finalist in the Junior C championship game. The Griffons from Sacré-Coeur won the Division C championship game by defeating Welland’s Jean-Vanier team by a score of 33-31.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
