On Friday, April 17, some 200 students and staff members from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) will take part in the inspirational We Day event by taking a vow of silence. Students and staff from Sudbury’s École St-Denis and École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest (Espanola) held their vow of silence on Thursday, April 16. This initiative has been put together by We Day and We Act.

The students decided to take a vow of silence during the We Stand in Silence campaign to display their solidarity with the children of the world whose voices are suppressed and whose human rights are trampled on as well as children who are victims of bullying in our own communities.  Inspired by Catholic social teachings, students realize that “Silence can be deafening” and will allow their voices to be heard.

Donations collected by the students from the three Catholic schools will go to support a variety of international development initiatives. At Collège Notre-Dame, the beneficiary will be the Brick by Brick project that seeks to build a school in Ghana.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
