Science teacher Pierre Taillon from Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame (CND) was presented the Sudbury Regional Science Fair’s Ambassador for Science Award during its March 29, 2015 awards ceremony. The award, presented for the very first time, spotlights notable contributions to the teaching of science made by exceptionally dedicated educators who, through their passion for this subject, support their students and excel in helping them to prepare their Science Fair projects.
Pierre Taillon has had a positive impact on the learning and success of Collège Notre-Dame student for more than 15 years. Under his guidance, several students won Sudbury Regional Science Fair awards and went on to compete in the Canada-Wide Science Fairs. His assistance to students in preparing their science fair projects each year is highly appreciated by his students and peers alike, as are the long hours he devotes to guiding and sharing his knowledge with the youngsters in regards to their scientific approach.
“Pierre is a dedicated science teacher who is totally committed to the success of his students. His great and contagious passion for science made it possible for me to participate in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair on two occasions and awakened my desire to pursue a career in this field,” stated CND grade 12 student Joël Venne.
CND Principal Johanne Chrétien was just as enthusiastic: “Pierre Taillon excels in his ability to transmit knowledge and stimulate our students’ scientific minds. Through his care in preparing enriching and motivating lessons, hundreds of students have gone on to study science at a higher level. Pierre is the key element that has enabled Collège Notre-Dame students to take part and excel consistently in the Sudbury Regional Science Fair.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
