On Wednesday, April 26, 100 Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students will meet at the Science North Cavern in Sudbury for the 2017 Great Robotic Challenge (Le Grand Défi Robotique). This friendly contest for students representing 16 CSCNO French Catholic elementary schools will see them strive to build the most efficient robot. Members of the media are invited to attend the competition, scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Some 130 young chess masters will meet in Wawa on Thursday, April 27, for the fourth Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament. The competition, hosted by Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph, will attract francophone students from the following Northwestern Ontario French Catholic and Public schools: École Saint-Joseph and École l’Escalade (Wawa), École St-Joseph and É.s. l’Orée des bois (Dubreuilville), École Sacré-Cœur (Chapleau), and École Écho-des-Rapides (Sault Ste. Marie).

Thanks to the high quality of their science projects, several students from Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), École St-Paul (Lively) and École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) stood out during the Sudbury Regional Science Fair held on the Laurentian University campus on April 8 and 9. Collège Notre-Dame students Joseph Trottier and Luc Couture as well as St-Paul student Rochelle Larivière distinguished themselves at the Science Fair through the quality of their science projects. These three Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students are among the six Greater Sudbury students to qualify for the 2017 Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held in Regina (Saskatchewan) on May 14-20. These students are among some 25,000 emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in more than 100 regional science fairs throughout the country.

Members of the media are invited to come and meet with the students at their school.

Again this year, eight Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will offer a free basic French language program until the end of the school year. The “À petits pas . . . . Small Steps program” program seeks to support parents/guardians who have enrolled a child in a full-time kindergarten program in a French Catholic school.
