The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is pleased to be ranked in 4th place in the 2017 Top Energy Performing School Boards Report that measures the energy efficiency of Ontario’s 72 school boards. This achievement is the result of a process of continuous improvement to upgrade CSCNO buildings since 1990 that has enabled the school board to earn its place as one of the top five energy-efficient Ontario school boards in 2016, and again in 2017. The CSCNO predicts that its ongoing commitment to this cause will allow it to remain a leader in reducing energy consumption.

Delegates from several Belgian Catholic francophone educational institutions visited Sudbury from October 22 to 26 to share strategies and ideas with staff from the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO). The ten principals from Belgium toured five CSCNO schools and took part in discussions regarding the implementation of professional learning communities as well as other educational initiatives and practices.

École secondaire catholique Champlain’s 9th annual Homeless for a Night activity which took place October 4–5, was a great success. The determination of the 119 participating students and school staff, paired with the community’s generosity, led to a grand total of $5,270 raised and ten large boxes of non perishable food items collected for the Chelmsford Food Bank.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is pleased to announce interim appointments at École Alliance St-Joseph (Chelmsford). Mrs. Julie Rainville-Démoré will serve as Principal while Mrs. Nicole Thériault will hold the position of Vice-Principal starting November 1, 2017.

Each year, the School Social Work Committee of the Ontario Association of Social Workers presents its School Social Work Achievement Award, recognizing an individual who has had a career of outstanding service and who has demonstrated qualities such as caring, dependability, enthusiasm, helpfulness, resourcefulness and knowledgeability. This year’s recipient is Conseil Scolaire Catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) social worker Nancy Tanguay. Mrs. Tanguay will accept her award during the 30th Annual School Social Work Committee Symposium to take place on October 26 at the Da Vinci Banquet Hall in Woodbridge, Ontario.

With a sense of deep pride, students, staff and friends of Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur celebrated today the official inauguration of the school’s new library for the digital age. This project is part of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario’s plan to upgrade its school libraries, making them into across-the-board learning hubs. The transformation, which takes into account the realities of the new digital age, seeks to promote reading, reflection and collaboration in both a physical and a virtual learning environment.

As part of their 20th anniversary celebration, Ontario’s eight French-language Catholic school boards, with the support of the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (AFOCSC), launched a provincial recognition tour to pay tribute to community leaders who, through their dedication to quality education, help the French-language Catholic school boards offer the best French-language education in Ontario. The tour, which is making its way across the province during the month of October, stopped at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) from October 11 to 13 for three award ceremonies.
