March 1, 2017
On Friday, March 3, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., dozens of young girls between the ages of 12 to 17 from several local schools will gather in the École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur (261 Notre-Dame Ave., Sudbury) gymnasium to take part in the Sudbury launch of the 2017 FitSpirit program. Among students taking part in this health promotion event will be students from Collège Notre-Dame, École St-Denis, École St-Augustin and É.S. du Sacré-Cœur. Members of the media are invited to attend.
Movement founder Claudine Labelle will attend the launch and deliver a motivational speech to encourage the girls to join FitClub after the March break. After eight to ten weeks of training, FitClub participants will have an opportunity to tackle a great personal challenge by completing a 5 or 10 kilometre run.
FitSpirit is a foundation that provides opportunities for girls between the ages of 12 to 17 to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle in an affirming environment. As FitSpirit’s flagship program, FitClub encourages girls in this age group to enjoy the benefits of getting active with friends. Since 2007, the FitSpirit team has promoted the benefits of physical activity to some 110,000 adolescent girls.
The CSCNO takes great pride in seeing students from four of its schools participate in this initiative, which will introduce 12 to 17 year old girls to physical activity and help them discover its positive effects for long term health and well-being.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and an academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
