Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon staff are looking forward to welcoming students starting on Tuesday, September 8, the first school day of the 2020-2021 school year. This year’s theme “L’éducation catholique : cultiver l’espérance ” (Catholic Education: Nurturing Hope) incites students and staff to put their faith in the Lord to find new strength.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon recently approved the placement of a school principal and vice-principals for the 2020-2021 school year.

The majority of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students who have chosen in-class instruction will be returning to school gradually during the first week of school (Tuesday, September 8 to Friday, September 11, 2020). This staggered entry will allow school teams to ensure the implementation of enhanced health and safety protocols and new routines. The gradual return schedule of each school will be communicated to parents through the Parents’ Portal by no later than August 28, 2020. Online education will begin for all students on Tuesday, September 8.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (CSC Nouvelon), Rainbow District School Board (RDSB), Sudbury Catholic District School Board (SCSDB) and Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario (CSPGNO) have approved a revision to the School Year Calendar for 2020-2021.

This year, 16 Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students were awarded a Bishop Alexander Carter Foundation Scholarship. The Foundations’s Performance Excellence Scholarship, valued at $1,000, was awarded to graduates of Catholic secondary schools in the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie who distinguished themselves as: enlightened believer, effective communicator, thoughtful thinker, independent learner, collaborator, considerate person and responsible citizen. The Foundation’s Excellence in Religious Teaching Scholarship, also valued at $1,000, was presented to the graduate of each high school who obtained the highest mark in this subject and illustrated themselves the most in school pastoral activities.

This year, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon awards its Vision Scholarships to outstanding graduating class students who have fulfilled the requirements of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Valued at $500, the scholarship is awarded annually to two students from each CSC Nouvelon secondary school and one from Carrefour Options+. Laureates, selected by the principal of their school, must reflect the CSC Nouvelon vision: “Thriving French-language Catholic students, proud and ready to take their place in society.” The scholarships were awarded to the following students in June 2020 during the board’s secondary schools’ virtual graduation ceremonies.

On June 23, 2020, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and the Association des enseignantes et enseignants franco-ontariens de l’Ontario  – Local 61 – reached a three-year tentative agreement. The ratification meeting is to take place on September 22, 2020.
