On Friday, November 26, École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury) will launch its 50th anniversary celebration activities. Due to the COVID-19 measures in place, the school will begin the celebrations with a fun-filled day for students and school staff to allow them to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their school.

The fun activities scheduled, which will vary depending on the age of the students, will focus on the number 50 and the year 1971. Students will also be able to discover the history of their school and learn more about who Félix Ricard was. A special snack and pizza lunch will be offered to all members of the school community. The school also plans to hold various activities until the end of the school year in June as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. École catholique Félix-Ricard hopes to hold an outdoor activity open to parents and friends of the school in the spring while respecting public health measures

Officially inaugurated on October 27, 1971, École catholique Félix-Ricard initially served grade 7 and 8 students from New Sudbury upon its opening. Today, the school also caters to Kindergarten to grade 8 students and offers a daycare service. Through Stephen Covey's 7 Habits program, the school promotes the development of student leadership and encourages them to live their Catholic faith and their Francophone culture.

The school is named after Félix Ricard, a prominent Sudbury citizen and ardent defender of Franco-Ontarian rights. A former school commissioner in Sudbury in the 1910s who campaigned extensively against Regulation 17, which limited education in French in Ontario, Félix Ricard participated in the efforts that led to the creation of French-language Catholic schools to serve the city’s French-Canadian community.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,400 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
