Mr. Serge Plante, school guidance counsellor at École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford), was presented the 2016 Padre Denis Brisson Memorial Award at the Association des conseillers en orientation scolaire de l’Ontario (ACOSO) Conference in Toronto on November 7. The ACOSO prize, awarded by Ontario’s francophone and bilingual postsecondary educational institutions (led by the University of Ottawa, Laurentian University and Collège Boréal), recognizes the contributions and commitment of a francophone school guidance counsellor in Ontario.
In his role as school guidance counsellor, Mr. Serge Plante has always been devoted to French language Catholic education and convinced of the importance of promoting the benefits of studying in French to students. He has always actively promoted the strengths of francophone postsecondary institutions as well as the variety of educational and career choices available.
“One of Serge Plante’s greatest qualities is his ability to establish a relationship of trust with students and the greater ESC Champlain community,” stated ESC Principal Mr. Yves Laliberté. “He has a significant impact on the success of our students due to his broad knowledge of the evolution of the labour market and the programs available at postsecondary institutions. This enables him to provide students with personalized support.”
“Mr. Plante has helped me since I first came to Champlain school in grade 9,” explained grade 12 student Janet-Leigh Dominic. “He has always shared his knowledge advised me knowledgably on course choices and on setting a study path that meets both my interests and my strengths. Mr. Plante is always available and attentive to the needs of students.”
“The support Serge provides to students in his role as school guidance counsellor is remarkable. We take pride in knowing that Mr. Plante, with the support of the school team, makes a difference in our students’ educational experience,” stated Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence.
