The return of the Annual Collège Notre-Dame Northern Cancer Research Foundation Fundraising Blitz

Collège Notre-Dame will host its annual Northern Cancer Research Foundation fundraising blitz this coming Thursday, April 27. The school expects that student participation in this year’s annual campaign—which was first held close to 35 years ago—will rise to nearly 130. Since the inception of the drive, close to $763,000 has been collected, and the school hopes to add another $20,000 this year.

Earlier today, (April 25), secondary school students from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) and École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron) had the great honour of welcoming the Honorable Michelle O’Bonsawin, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, during her visit to Greater Sudbury. Students from both schools took part in an informal presentation offered by Justice O’Bonsawin, a proud Abenaki and Franco-Ontarian. Justice O’Bonsawin shared with them an overview of her career and her personal and professional experiences that led to her appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of Canada. She also encouraged the students to have the audacity to dream big.

On Tuesday, April 25, at 9:45 a.m., the École Jean-Paul II (Val Caron) school community will officially present a donation of more than $2,400 to Maison McCulloch Hospice. This donation will be accepted by Ms. Julie Aubé, Executive Director of Maison McCulloch Hospice.

CSC Nouvelon psychologist presented with 2023 Literacy Leader Award

On April 14, as part of its conference, the International Dyslexia Association of Ontario paid tribute to Ms. Alex-Andrée Madore, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon psychologist, by presenting her with the 2023 Literacy Leader Award. With the presentation of this award, this provincial association recognizes her engagement in promoting awareness and understanding of structured literacy programming in their setting and helping students with learning disabilities through the science of reading.

Outstanding Collège Notre-Dame scientists stand out at Sudbury Regional Science Fair

Thanks to the excellence of their science projects, twelve Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) students stood out during the Sudbury Regional Science Fair held in April at Laurentian University. Collège Notre-Dame student Mikella Morin distinguished herself through the quality of her science project and is among the Greater Sudbury students to qualify for the 2023 Canada-Wide Science Fair to be held in Edmonton on May 14-19.

CSC Nouvelon to move forward in its project to build a new French-language elementary Catholic school in Hanmer / Val Thérèse

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is pleased to announce that an important step in its project to build a new French-language Catholic elementary school in Hanmer / Val Thérèse has been reached. The Ontario Ministry of Education recently granted the school board the approval to proceed with the tender process. The CSC Nouvelon has already received the capital funding for the construction of this new school as well as the purchase of the property to build a new school for students currently enrolled at École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), École St-Joseph (Hanmer) and École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse). The new school will be built on land located in Val Thérèse on Municipal Road 80 (formerly 69 North) at Shirley Avenue.
