Musical talents of students from École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) and ÉSC l’Horizon (Val Caron) to be showcased

École Notre-Dame (Hanmer) will be hosting a spring music concert on Wednesday, May 24, at 6 p.m. This cultural event will showcase the musical talents of students from grade 1 to 6 as well as the music band Virtuose from École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron. It is expected that over 400 people, including students, families and friends of the school, will attend the show. Members of the media are invited to attend the event. École Notre-Dame is located at 4503 Dennie Street in Hanmer.
École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault robotics team shines at VEX Robotics World Championship

The École secondaire Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie) robotics team recently concluded a very busy and successful year that included several standout performances at regional, provincial and international competitions. Without a doubt, the highlight remains their participation at the VEX Robotics World Championship, held in Dallas, Texas, from April 25 to 27. With over 800 teams from more than 50 countries competing, it is the largest robotics competition in the world.
Collège Notre-Dame student to compete in the 2023 Canada-Wide Science Fair

The high quality of her science project has enabled a Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon student to qualify for the 2023 Canada-Wide Science Fair taking place from May 14 to 19 in Edmonton. Mikella Morin, a grade 10 student at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), is among the thousands emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in some 100 regional science fairs throughout the country. She will present her research as well as compete to represent the District of Sudbury in the Canada-Wide Science Fair.

An evening of music with Collège Notre-Dame’s Le Bistro

On Friday, June 2, at 6:30 p.m., Le Bistro, Collège Notre-Dame’s (CND) singing café will present its end-of-the year repertoire to the public. The concert will take place in the school gymnasium located at 100 Lévis Street in Sudbury. The students are proud to be able to share their musical talent through this event. Tickets are $5 each and snacks will be available for purchase during the intermission.

CSC Nouvelon secondary students shine at Skills Ontario Competition

From May 1to 3, skilled trades were in the spotlight at the Skills Ontario Competition held at the Toronto Congress Centre. Among the 4,000 competitors from across the province gathered to celebrate and showcase the skilled trades were several student competitors from Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon secondary schools.

Young chess masters gather in Wawa to compete in the Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament

Over 250 young chess masters will meet in Wawa on Thursday, May 18, for the seventh Franco-Nord-Ouest Chess Tournament. The competition, hosted by Wawa’s École Saint-Joseph, will attract francophone students from the following Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon elementary and secondary schools: École Ste-Marie (Azilda), École Sacré-Cœur (Chapleau), ÉSC Trillium (Chapleau), École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville), École catholique George Vanier (Elliot Lake), École catholique La Renaissance (Espanola), École Notre-Dame (Hamner), École Saint Nom de Jésus (Hornepayne), École St-Paul (Lively), École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault-Ste-Marie), École St-Denis (Sudbury), ÉS du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury), École Saint-Joseph (Wawa) and ÉS Saint-Joseph (Wawa). This year, a record number of students are taking part in this competition which has been held since 2019 due to the pandemic.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, L’École catholique organized the Smiles Challenge: a highly original contest that brought out over 3,600 creative smiles in its schools over the past few weeks! This great participation testifies to the joy, excitement and sense of well-being in more than 300 schools in Ontario’s eight French-language Catholic school boards.
