Members of the media are invited to the construction countdown ceremony of the new French-language Catholic school in Val Thérèse. The construction of the new facility will unite students currently enrolled at École Ste-Thérèse (Val Thérèse), École Notre-Dame (Hanmer), and École St-Joseph (Hanmer). The new school, which will include a French-language daycare facility, is located at 4385 Municipal Road 80, at Shirley Avenue, in Val Thérèse. The selected date, which coincides with Franco-Ontarian Day, will put forward the new school’s strategic role in promoting French-language Catholic education and Francophone cultures in the communities of Val Thérèse and Hanmer.

This year, parents and guardians of Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to follow two free French as a second language programs. The Beginner 1 and Beginner 2 programs are both 15-week courses. and will be offered online by Collège Boréal starting October 8, 2024. These programs will support Anglophone and Allophone parents as they learn and communicate in French to better support their child’s learning. The cost of the courses is covered by the CSC Nouvelon Parent Involvement Committee. However, spaces in both programs are limited.

This year, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon will benefit from the dedication of two student trustees who will serve as student representatives for the Board as well as the Student Senate. Mélanie Denis-Plante, a grade 12 student at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), and Lydia Raddon, a grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River) will take part in the Board’s first meeting on September 23 during which they will be sworn-in.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is pleased to offer once again its Centre des petits program at ten schools in Greater Sudbury starting on the week of September 16. This program seeks to support the future academic success of preschoolers. This free program enables youngsters between two and four years of age to play with their friends, parents or guardians while improving their French-language skills.

Adults over the age of 21 who wish to complete their secondary school studies in French can benefit from the expertise of Carrefour Options+, a Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon secondary school that offers a continuing education component. With an operating structure different from that of a regular high school, Carrefour Options+ offers a flexible schedule better adapted to the particular needs of adults, enabling them to study independently and take a variety of credit courses required to obtain the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

Registration in Kindergarten as well as other grade levels is ongoing in Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools. Parents wishing to discover the countless benefits of French-language education are invited to contact the French-language Catholic school in their community. While children born in 2020 will start school in September 2024, those born in earlier years can register in a CSC Nouvelon elementary or secondary school, located in various communities in the Districts of Algoma and Sudbury-Manitoulin and benefit from their tradition of excellence.

This year, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon awards its Vision Scholarships to outstanding graduating class students who have fulfilled the requirements of their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Valued at $500, the scholarship is awarded annually to two students from each CSC Nouvelon secondary school and one from Carrefour Options+. Laureates, selected by the principal of their school, reflect the CSC Nouvelon vision: “Thriving French-language Catholic students, proud and ready to take their place in society.” The scholarships were awarded to the following students in June 2024 during the board’s secondary schools’ graduation ceremonies.
