On May 14, the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (Franco-Ontarian Association of Catholic School Boards) (AFOCSC) honoured Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) school board trustee for District 4 (Greater Sudbury wards 1–4) Marcel Montpellier with the Catholic Education Award of Excellence (Prix d’excellence en éducation catholique) at its annual congress. This award recognizes Mr. Montpellier’s important contributions to French language Catholic education in Ontario.
Marcel Pelletier has served with distinction as school board trustee since 1992. In the course of this period, he was both President and Vice-President of the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO), and sat on the Board of Directors of the AFOCSC numerous times as well. His contributions include the ability to create long-lasting relationships between French language Catholic schools, parishes and community organizations. During his mandates as president, Mr. Montpellier oversaw the completion of a variety of school construction, renovation and consolidation projects, as well as directly contributing to the creation of French-language school boards in Ontario in 1998.
“Through his constant efforts, Marcel is an outstanding ambassador who contributes to the development and expansion of French-language Catholic education across the province,” declared CSCNO President André Bidal. “Marcel stands out for his ability to lead concerted collective reflections on important issues. His strong belief in the value of French language catholic education is reflected in his discussions.”
“Marcel is proud to be an accessible Francophone Catholic role model. The CSCNO is fortunate to have been able to count on this great leader as its president for many years and as a school board trustee for more than 20 years. What a pleasure it is to be able to work with a dedicated man of such convictions, who cares so much for the welfare of students, staff and colleagues,” added Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, Director of Education at the CSCNO.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
