On Monday, March 7, Darquise Frappier, a grade 6 student at École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), will be honoured for her outstanding achievements during a ceremony officiated by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. On that day, Darquise, along with 12 other Ontario youths, will be presented the Ontario Junior Citizens Award by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association. These young people represent a diverse group sharing a common desire to make a difference. They are truly an inspiring group whose stories illustrate leadership, creativity, determination and generosity.
Although she is only 11 years old, Darquise Frappier has already contributed a great deal to her community and beyond. Sharing her musical talents, this École Félix-Ricard student has performed during various events and helped raise more than $28,000 for multiple charities. Just last year, she played the piano and sang to raise funds for a girl requiring treatment only offered in Mexico.
Her resume also includes fund-raising to enable the donation of soccer balls to the Centre de santé communautaire du Grand Sudbury’s soccer program as well as personally donating items and funds to the Grace Orphanage in Jamaica. Recently, along with her sister Mélanie-Rose, a former École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur student, she led a drive to collect warm clothing for the city’s homeless population that were distributed to clients through the Out of the Cold Shelter in Sudbury. Last year, Darquise was a finalist for the Me to We Canadian Living Award for her own volunteer efforts.
Darquise is a committed student demonstrating remarkable Catholic leadership skills and surely taking her place in our society,” stated Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) Director of Education Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau. “She deserves this wonderful recognition as she joins an outstanding group of select Ontario youths.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
