Sudbury  – The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released earlier this week the results of Ontario’s grade 3 and 6 students from the 2014-2015 provincial testing. The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) is proud to announce that its elementary students (grades 3 and 6) have shown a steady improvement in reading, writing and mathematics over the last five years.

Since 2010-2011, CSCNO grade 3 students have stood out among Ontario students, successfully maintaining a steady progression in their success rates in two of the three strands. Reading results increased to 80% (an 8% increase), the best result for CSCNO students in this strand since 2002. Writing stands at 77% (a 5% increase) and mathematics results have increased to 81% (an 8% increase). These solid results reflect the success of the board’s strategies designed to support CSCNO students in their learning.

Grade 6 students have also demonstrated steady improvement since 2010-2011. Reading results have attained 91% (a 13% increase), writing results have risen to 83% (a 6% increase) and mathematics results sit at 83% (a 2% decrease). The CSCNO explains that the energy dedicated to reading and writing may explain the improved performance in these skills as well as steady results in grade 6 mathematics. In fact, since this same cohort was evaluated in provincial testing in 2011-2012 when they were in grade 3, their performance has improved by 17% in reading.

“As reflected in our yearly results, our elementary level students are making and sustaining great progress in both reading and writing, our grade 3 and 6 students also excel in mathematics. Without a doubt, they greatly benefit from our teaching strategies, continued support and pedagogical initiatives,” explained Mrs. Nicole Sonier, Executive Director of Learning at the CSCNO. “We take pride in being among Francophone school boards that continue to perform at high levels across the province in all grade 3 and grade 6 testing components. While improving their performance, CSCNO students are contributing to the continued improvement of the Francophone average score across the province. »

“The commitment of our school staff enables us to offer quality programs that stand out”, stated Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO Director of Education. “Motivated by the desire to remain a top performing school board, we will work to perfect our teaching strategies in order to increase our students’ success rate and to offer to our families the quality French Catholic education that they have come to expect for their children. Our objective, as always, is assisting each of our students in reaching or exceeding provincial standards as they move forward to taking their place in society.”

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
