On November 19, École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) teacher Mrs. Carol Bradley-Whissell was honoured by the YMCA for her commitment to building peace within her community and elsewhere in the world.  In recognition of her longstanding contributions towards the less fortunate, she was named Peacemaker and presented with a Certificate of Honourable Mention at the YMCA’s yearly Peace Medallion Ceremony.

Highly appreciated for mobilizing Champlain students for the school’s yearly “Homeless for a Night” activity, Mrs. Bradley-Whissell also organizes pastoral events, leads a variety of humanitarian efforts in her community. This Champlain teacher also works closely with all four French-language Catholic schools in Rayside-Balfour and Onaping Falls to identify families in need, lead food drives in support of local food banks and  provide warm winter clothing to less fortunate residents.

“Carol has the unique ability to mobilize the Champlain school community as well as Rayside-Balfour and Onaping Falls citizens in support of worthy humanitarian initiatives. While raising awareness of the reality of our less fortunate residents, she succeeds in promoting tolerance and peace in the community,” explained ÉSC Champlain principal, Mrs. Anne Castonguay.

“There is no doubt that Mrs. Bradley-Whissell is a perfect role model for our students. Through her actions, she succeeds in creating peace at the community level and creates a feeling of empathy for underprivileged members of society,” stated Mrs. Lyse-Anne Papineau, CSCNO Director of Education. “While encouraging tolerance and compassion, Carol inspires our students to become agents of change and tolerant and engaged citizens.
