Students and staff at École secondaire catholique Champlain (61 Brookside Drive, Chelmsford) will take part in a “Bucket Challenge” as part of the launch of the Adaptive ALS Canuck Foundation campaign, which supports individuals suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Members of the media are invited to this event, which is scheduled to take place in the school gymnasium on Thursday, November 12, at 10 a.m.
This “Bucket Challenge” event is spearheaded by Michel Leroux and Jeff Perreault with the support of family members. Michel Leroux, a key member of this fund-raising initiative, is well-known among ESC Champlain staff and students having recently retired after serving more than 25 years as a physical education teacher and coach of various sports teams. In the summer of 2015, Mr. Leroux learned that he is suffering from ALS. Also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and leave voluntary muscles paralyzed.
Through their “Bucket Challenge” initiative, Jeff Perreault and Michel Leroux are raising funds to advance ALS adult stem-cell research in Canada.
