Students from Sudbury’s École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur have been contributing for over a year to a community initiative in support of the Canadian Cancer Society Wheels of Hope program, which provides transportation to patients being treated at the Northeastern Cancer Centre. Last fall, our student volunteers planted no less than 2,200 daffodils in the green spaces of Sudbury’s Flour Mill Neighbourhood.

This year, Sacré-Cœur student volunteers Maxim Lefrançois, Ryan Giroux and Julien Marshall devoted many hours to the project, packaging 12,000 daffodil bulbs in bags that will be sold throughout the community to help the “planting the town yellow” campaign spread across the area. Project partner Home Hardware will sell the bulbs in all of its Northeastern stores on September 25, from Sudbury to Noëlville.

This is a community endeavour that benefits from the support of Greater Sudbury’s three community networks, as well as the Flour Mill Business Improvement Area, the students and teachers of École secondaire du Sacré-Cœur, Ward 12 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Mrs. Joscelyne Landry-Altmann, Petryna Advertising as well as the Sudbury Credit Union.
