Some 300 grade 7 and 8 students from several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools will gather at Sudbury’s École St-Denis (1200 Ramsey View Court) on Thursday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to participate in the We Day rally. Members of the media are invited to attend.

Following their participation in the national We Day event in Ottawa in April, École St-Denis students mobilized to organize a local version of this activity for CSCNO students. Since September 2014, the students have been inspired to lead a fund-raising drive that will help construct a school in Sierra Leone, and wanted to share their experiences by hosting a day featuring motivational speakers and activities.

The leadership rally will benefit from the participation of guest speakers that include Mrs. Doussouba Konaté (Youth Program Coordinator at Free the Children), Mr. Jean-Paul Courtemanche (Tour Manager at EF Educational Tours) and two Francophone and Catholic leaders from the CSCNO. This leadership-building activity seeks to create a setting to motivate students to become leaders and be guided by the motto: “Be the change that you want to see in the world.”

We Day is a movement of our time that empowers a generation of young citizens to change the world and become socially responsible. This movement provides tools and skills to a generation of youngsters, helping to turn the inspiration of one day into sustained activation.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
