Sudbury’s École catholique Félix-Ricard will host its first student Leadership Day on Thursday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 12-noon. During this activity, students and school staff will promote the benefits of The Leader in Me Program since the integration of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People to the school in 2011. Members of the media are invited.
Since January 2011, the teaching staff at École catholique Félix-Ricard incorporated the principles advanced by author Stephen R. Covey in his best-selling book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People into the school teaching environment. Adding the “Leader in Me” program to the curriculum aims to improve student success and to prepare them to become citizens ready for the 21st century. Félix-Ricard was the first French language school in Canada and the only school in Northern Ontario to integrate this program into its learning activities.
The seven habits of highly effective people are: be proactive – take responsibility for your choices; begin with the end in mind – have a plan; put first things first – work comes first, then play; think win-win – everyone can win; seek first to understand, then to be understood – listen before you speak; synergize – together is better; and sharpen the saw – balance feels best.
Through this program, all Félix-Ricard students were able to set personal and professional goals as part of the efforts to make a visible difference in their school and community. The Leader in Me process also allows students to discover and develop their talents and to contribute to the well-being of their school and community.
Through the integration of this program, École élémentaire catholique Félix-Ricard provides the school community with the tools to make a visible difference and helps student leaders to develop into active, engaged partners in their own education.
The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
