During its January 28 regular meeting, the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario trustees adopted the motion presented by the board’s Working and Labour Relations Committee.

The CSCNO recommends the construction of a junior kindergarten to grade 12 school shared with Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board (HSCDSB) on the sites of the existing Sacred Heart School (property of HSCDSB) and the former St-Louis de France Church (property of the CSCNO). This project is conditional to securing funding from the Ministry of Education.

“We believe that this collaboration will better enable the CSCNO to offer a quality learning environment to its elementary and secondary level students,” states Mr. André Bidal, CSCNO President. “Although the school site will be shared, our Francophone schools will maintain their autonomy and we will finally be able to offer our high school students their own area where they will be able to learn and strive as Francophones and Catholics.”

The CSCNO and the HSCDSB have been working in collaboration since last year to address the student accommodation needs in Espanola in response to a request from the Ministry of Education. They jointly produced a feasibility study of various options pertaining to the utilization of school sites in Espanola while consulting their respective school communities.

The CSCNO operates one French Catholic elementary school in Espanola – École élémentaire catholique Saint-Joseph. It also leases space at Espanola High School for École secondaire catholique Franco-Ouest.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
