On Wednesday, July 3, at 8 p.m., Greater Sudbury Francophones will see their community’s visibility raised to a higher level throughout the country with the nationwide broadcast of Radio Canada’s La Petite Séduction TV program. The show’s television audience – often as many as one million strong – will discover the energy of Sudbury citizens and appreciate the remarkable red carpet they set out to welcome Franco-Ontarian artist and comedian Patrick Groulx and program host Dany Turcotte when the episode was taped in Sudbury at the end of May.
Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) students were called upon to participate in various segments of the show, enabling Patrick Groulx and host Dany Turcotte to experience unforgettable souvenirs and powerful emotions. Sudbury’s Collège Notre-Dame was honoured to serve as the location of a May 30 program segment aimed at letting the guest relive memorable moments of his secondary school experiences while being surrounded by a large crowd of students. Through the efforts of Collège Notre-Dame students and staff, Patrick Groulx took part in a student radio program, talked with committed students and discovered Intégration, the prize-winning music band at La Brunante 2013.
While some Collège Notre-Dame and É.s. du Sacré-Cœur students had speaking roles during the program, other contributed to the success of the show by serving as extras or musicians. Students from É.s.c. l’Horizon (Val Caron) will also be able to see themselves on the television screen thanks to their participation in the segment of the program promoting Sudbury’s rich mining heritage that was taped at Dynamic Earth.
“Our students greatly appreciated the time they spent with Patrick Groulx who, just like them, attended a Franco-Ontarian Catholic secondary school. Patrick is incontestably an accessible role model for our younth. He delivered a highly relevant message: even if we are in a minority setting, it is important to live and promote our Francophone culture,” declared Collège Notre-Dame Principal Johanne Chrétien. “Our students have every right to take pride in their participation in the taping of a television program that will ensure that our dynamic Francophone community will be broadcast and discovered throughout the country.”
