On Thursday, September 22, some students and staff from École catholique La Renaissance (Espanola) will gather at their community's city hall to take part in a historic Franco-Ontarian flag raising ceremony. Having recently adopted a resolution to officially recognize the Provincial Franco-Ontarian Fay, the municipal council of Espanola will proceed with the raising of the Franco-Ontarian flag for the very first time in front of a municipal building.
Proud of their Franco-Ontarian identity, participating students and school staff will be dressed in green and white to parade with Franco-Ontarian flags from their school (301 Church Street, Espanola) to City Hall (100 Tudhope Street, Espanola) and to participate in this historic moment. During this event, they will have the opportunity to meet Mayor Jill Beer and showcase their Francophone pride. It is expected that the Franco-Ontarian flag will fly in front of City Hall until Monday, September 26, the day following the official Franco-Ontarian Day (September 25).
Elementary and secondary students from École catholique La Renaissance, will also be offered various pride-building activities within their school to mark Franco-Ontarian Day. In addition, they will be treated with a green-and-white themed snack.
