The high quality of their science projects has enabled two Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students to qualify for the 2022 Canada-Wide Science Fair taking place virtually this week from May 16 to 20. Maxine Maillet and Jasmine Lauzon, students at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury), are among the thousands emerging Canadian scientists from grades 7 through 12 to participate in some 100 regional science fairs throughout the country. They will present their research as well as compete to represent their region in the Canada-Wide Science Fair.
Maxine Maillet stood out during the Sudbury Regional Science Fair held on online in April. This grade 11 student at Collège Notre-Dame distinguished herself for the quality of her science project entitled “L’effet du niveau de pH sur les cellules de joue” (The effect of pH levels on the cells of the cheek). This student placed 1st in Life Sciences for the Senior Division. Maxine was also the winner of the Biotechnology Award, the Laurentian University Dean’s Award and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada’s Young Innovator Award.
Jasmine Lauzon, a grade 11 student at Collège Notre-Dame, was recognized for her project entitled “Analyser la fabrication, les effets et le développement des dépendances sur les électroniques” (Anlyzing the Fabrication, Effects and Development of Dependencies on Electronics). This student placed 2nd in Life Sciences for the Senior Division and was also awarded the University of Ottawa Admission Scholarship.
“CSC Nouvelon students have a truly well-earned reputation for academic excellence. This time, two junior scientists will have the opportunity to shine at the national level and take advantage of this unique, high-level science competition opportunity to reach new horizons,” stated Mr. Paul Henry, CSC Nouvelon Director of Education and Secretary Treasurer. “The consistent participation of our students in the Canada-Wide Science Fair reflects the quality of the educational program provided to our students as well as the high level of excellence of our teachers in the fields of science and technology.”
The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,100 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
