The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is proud to announce the election of a new student trustee for the Districts of Algoma and Manitoulin who will commence her two-year term on August 1, 2021. Mariska Lamothe, a grade 10 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), will succeed Benjamin Dennie as student trustee for the Districts of Algoma and Manitoulin.

Committed to enriching the French-speaking and Catholic environment of her school, Mariska stands out through her involvement in the student parliament as well as through her participation in École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord’s basketball, volleyball and badminton teams. As a member of the student parliament, Mariska is always helpful and shows initiative in leading a variety of school activities. In light of her leadership, Mariska was chosen this year as captain of the ÉSC Jeunesse-Nord junior girls' volleyball team.

She will be joined on the board by Mia Toner, a grade 11 student at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury), who will be starting the second year of her term as student trustee for the District of Sudbury.

“We congratulate all students who submitted their candidacy as well as members of the Student Senate for participating in the election,” states Ms. Suzanne Salituri, President of the CSC Nouvelon. “Our two student trustees hold an important role in the promotion of French-language Catholic Education and are a veritable asset to our Board in sharing student concerns.”

“I have full confidence that Mia will fulfill her duties as student representative for the Board as well as the Board’s Student Senate,” adds Mr. Paul E. Henry, Director of Education and Secretary Treasurer for the CSC Nouvelon. “We are proud of the fact that our students recognize the importance of this role as well as the incredible opportunity it offers them in developing their Catholic and Francophone leadership in their own school and their community.”

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,100 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
