The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is proud to announce the election of a new student trustee who will commence her two-year term on August 1, 2021.

Mia Toner, a grade 10 student at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury), will succeed Mathieu Simon as student trustee for the Sudbury District. Committed to enriching the French-speaking and Catholic environment of her school, Mia stands out through her involvement in student radio, the well-being committee, the student parliament as well as through her participation in École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur’s curling and cross-country running teams. In 2022, Mia will represent Ontario at the upcoming Canadian Francophone Games.

She will be joined on the board by Benjamin Dennie, a grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), who will be starting the second year of his term as student trustee for the Districts of Algoma and Manitoulin.

“We congratulate all students who submitted their candidacy as well as members of the Student Senate for participating in the election,” states Mr. André Bidal, President of the CSC Nouvelon. “Our two student trustees hold an important role in the promotion of French-language Catholic Education and are a veritable asset to our Board in sharing student concerns.”

“I have full confidence that Mia will fulfill her duties as student representative for the Board as well as the Board’s Student Senate,” adds Mr. Paul E. Henry, Director of Education and Secretary Treasurerfor the CSC Nouvelon. “We are proud of the fact that our students recognize the importance of this role as well as the incredible opportunity it offers them in developing their Catholic and Francophone leadership in their own school and their community.”

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSC Nouvelon provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 6,400 students enrolled in 27 elementary, 1 virtual school and 10 secondary schools.
