Several Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) schools are doing their part to make the holiday season a little brighter for those in need, lending their support through a wide range of activities and initiatives.

Several schools took part in the Samaritan’s Purse Canada Operation Christmas Child, which encourages Canadians to fill shoe boxes with gifts that are then delivered to children in difficult situations all over the world. École secondaire Sacré-Coeur (Sudbury), École Saint-Joseph (Blind River), École St-Dominique (Sudbury) and École Ste-Marie (Azilda) filled over 200 boxes this year.

Schools are also collecting non-perishable food items to support their local community. École Saint-Joseph (Espanola) took part in the annual Stuff the Bus campaign, while École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) students collected items during Chapleau’s Christmas parade and École St-Joseph (Hanmer) students went door-to-door. Students and staff at Collège Notre-Dame (Sudbury) are doing their part too, collecting non-perishable food items, personal hygiene products and lightly used clothing to be distributed to community organizations in Sudbury.

To ensure a Merry Christmas for all, École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) students are preparing Christmas food baskets for families in need in their community. In Wawa, École Saint-Joseph will be personally delivering gifts to each long-term patient at the Lady Dun Health Centre and singing uplifting Christmas carols as well. Finally, École St-Paul (Lively) students will also spread some holiday cheer by singing at the Walden Tree Lighting ceremony.

Charitable gestures such as these are not only beneficial for those in need, they also foster this important Catholic value among students, the value of helping others that is emphasized in all the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario schools.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
