École St-Paul (Lively) student Rochelle Larivière recently was privileged to have a unique experience as a Page in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario at Queen’s Park (Toronto) from October 16 to November 2. Rochelle was chosen amongst hundreds of students that applied to the Legislative Assembly Page Program.

The determined student started the process a few months ago after meeting with Nickel Belt MPP France Gélinas, who recommended the program. Rochelle quickly submitted her application and was initially selected at the regional level. Her application was then forwarded to the provincial selection committee that chose her to be one of 21 Legislative Assembly of Ontario Page Program participants.

Rochelle’s interest in politics was her primary motivation for applying to the Page Program. The experience allowed her to gain a better understanding of the inner workings of government and to witness several debates in the legislature. She was thrilled to meet several important Legislative Assembly figures such as Speaker Dave Levac and Clerk Todd Decker, and especially the Premier, Kathleen Wynne. “The knowledge I acquired from this experience is truly incredible. I will forever remember my experience at Queen’s Park,” said Rochelle.

Each year, some 140 boys and girls are selected from across Ontario to serve as Legislative Assembly Pages. The program is an educational opportunity for outgoing, high-achieving, community-involved students from grades 7 and 8 who have demonstrated responsibility and leadership skills.

The Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario offers a French Catholic Educational Program that is widely recognized for its excellence. The CSCNO provides a quality learning environment and academic program that runs from early childhood to adult education, with some 7,000 students enrolled in 27 elementary and 10 secondary schools.
