Ontario’s eight French-language Catholic school boards and the Association franco-ontarienne des conseils scolaires catholiques (AFOCSC) are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year! To mark this important milestone, L’École catholique has prepared various activities for students and staff, including a highly original competition that will bring out the beautiful smiles of its school community, which is at the heart of these celebrations: 25 years of smiles!

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon is proud to announce the election of a new student trustee who will commence his one-year term on August 1, 2023. Zackary Vaillancourt, a grade 11 student at École secondaire catholique l’Horizon (Val Caron), will succeed Mia Toner as student trustee for the District of Sudbury.

As part of the Winter Carnival activities at École Jean-Paul II (1795 Main Street, Val Caron), junior kindergarten to grade 8 students will take part in a cardboard box race on a snow-covered surface. This fun event will be held on Friday, February 24, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m., on the school grounds. Members of the media are invited to attend this activity, which will be held for the first time since 2018.

Annie Azzi, a grade 10 student at École secondaire catholique Jeunesse-Nord (Blind River), won two medals at the recent Ontario Winter Games in Renfrew. This student competed in biathlon, a discipline that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting.

The Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (Local 4274) recently ratified a new collective agreement for the period starting on September 1, 2022 and ending on August 31, 2026. At the CSC Nouvelon, CUPE represents janitorial and maintenance staff.

Grade 6 students at École Notre-Dame-du-Sault (Sault Ste. Marie) recently concluded an extraordinary cultural and artistic experience. It all started in September when their teacher Ms. Marie-Claude Racine suggested that they add color to the hallway in front of their classroom.

Parents wishing to register their child in a full-time French-language Kindergarten program are invited to come discover École catholique Georges Vanier (Elliot Lake) during its Open House event on Wednesday, January 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. During this activity, families will be able to visit the school, meet the school and Nouveau Départ daycare staff, as well as take part in fun activities. A snack will be served. Children will also participate in a craft activity and receive a gift bag. This activity is offered as part of the school’s Kindergarten Registration Week which will run until January 20. École catholique Georges Vanier is located at 140 Hillside North Drive, in Elliot Lake.
