On October 9, some 75 students as well as staff members from École secondaire catholique Champlain (Chelmsford) took part in the 14th Homeless for a Night event. With only cardboard boxes and tarps for shelters,
students were able to experience the reality of being homeless. They also collected non-perishable food items and monetary donations. Community members were able to stop by for a visit and donate to this great cause.

In addition to raising awareness among students, the Homeless for a Night event enabled the school to collect some $3,300 in donations, as well as non-perishable food items. With the funds and donations raised, the
school is proud to give back to three community organizations. ÉSC Champlain recently donated 10 boxes of food items to the Chelmsford Food Bank, will purchase winter socks and boots in support of the Elgin Street
Mission and will donate to the Sudbury Infant Food Bank. In December, the school will also make a donation to support the Chelmsford Food Bank’s Christmas basket initiative.

"The Homeless for a Night event is very important for our students because it gives them an opportunity to learn about homelessness and make a difference in their community. Through this community involvement
initiative, Champlain students help organizations that provide important support to people in need," says Angèle Carr, Principal at École secondaire catholique Champlain.
