On Friday, March 22, students and school staff from École secondaire catholique La Renaissance (Espanola) will share their leadership and Christian faith by taking part in the Way of the Cross through the streets of the City of Espanola.
This exercise in piety, which will bring together several members of the local Catholic community, will begin at 9:45 a.m. at École secondaire catholique La Renaissance, located at 301 Church Street in Espanola. Some 70 persons will take part in this activity, which is being held as part of the celebration of Easter.
A ten-foot-long cross will be carried in turn by two students from La Renaissance during this spiritual pilgrimage involving walking, prayer and meditation. The Way of the Cross, comprised of 15 stations along the route, will make stops at the corner of Mead Boulevard and 2nd Avenue, the corner of 2nd Avenue and Thornloe Avenue, the corner of Thornloe Avenue and Highway 6, the corner of Highway 6 and Mead Boulevard, the community Cenotaph and St. Jude Parish at 247 Mead Boulevard.
"Through the leadership of our teachers and our partnership with St. Jude's Parish, our students will have the opportunity to experience an important Christian tradition as well as demonstrate their community leadership and Catholic faith," explained Ms. Jennifer Bernard, Principal of École catholique La Renaissance. "By participating in the Way of the Cross, our students and school staff will be commemorating the Passion of Christ.”
